The Opportunity Card visa allows you to travel to Germany and look for work there legally, even without a prior employment contract. The idea is that it gives you the opportunity to explore the job market yourself and start building your future step by step.
Key Visa Benefits:
You can enter Germany even without a pre-existing employment contract.
You can work part-time while searching for work, up to a maximum of 20 hours per week.
You are allowed a temporary work trial (probe arbeit) of up to two weeks with each employer to familiarize yourself with the job before signing a contract.
- The visa is valid for up to 6 months or a full year.
After you find a suitable and stable job, you can convert the visa into a permanent or long-term residence permit.
Application Requirements:
To apply for the visa, you will need to meet a set of basic requirements:
1. A recognized educational or professional qualification (diploma, university degree, or vocational training of at least two years).
2. Proof of at least German level A2 or English level B2 in some cases.
3. Proof of sufficient financial means to cover living expenses during the research period (e.g., blocked account or partial income).
4. Valid health insurance for the entire duration of your stay.
5. In some cases, you may need professional experience or a sufficient number of points if your qualification is not officially recognized as a "specialized" qualification.
Blocked Account
This is a bank account in Germany where you deposit a specific amount of money in your name before traveling.
Its purpose is to prove that you can support yourself financially without assistance.
- You cannot withdraw the entire amount at once, but you can withdraw a portion.
- It is a mandatory requirement at the embassy when applying for a visa.
